Deb’s passion for teaching led her to a career with humans from infants to adults for many years. It included teaching, coaching, assisting parents and teachers and school administration. Having grown up in rural upstate New York for the first 9 years of her life, she was always in the outdoors with animals of one kind or another including family dogs. Deb’s love for dog training began several years ago as the quest began for a new family dog. Piper joined the family and Deb began exploring the arena of dog training. Inspired by taking a class at Canine Assistants, an organization that trains service dogs and by the echoes of praise for Karen Pryor Academy and clicker training, she began switching her focus to dog learning and training.
Besides clicker training Piper and Charlee who also joined the family, Deb volunteered at Panhandle Animal Shelter as a doggie playgroup supervisor and dog walker and Second Chance Adoption working with dogs that needed 1-1 attention and basic manners for more adopt-ability. She also began home boarding (Four Paws Pet Lodge).
In 2014 formal training began with Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Foundations course and in 2015 she enrolled in Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional program. She and Charlee (her female yellow lab) are proud to have graduated and to be a KPA Certified Training Partner. Deb’s human education includes a BA in Sociology and Spanish, Lifetime Teaching Credential and MA in Education.
Deb is still called to the outdoors and to be surrounded by the animal world both domestic and wild. She lives with her husband Rich, Piper, and Charlee on their acre of paradise called Moosewood Meadows.
